UK company fined for non-compliance with Packaging Regulations

1 April 2011

The UK Environment Agency has recently fined a producer £15,000 plus £1,670 costs for failing to comply with the UK Packaging Regulations in 2007 and 2008.

The company has been registered under the WEEE regulations since 2007 and had joined a collective scheme for packaging from the 2009 compliance period onwards, after becoming aware of the Packaging Regulations during a routine UK Environment Agency audit visit. By not complying as a packaging producer during 2007 and 2008, the company had avoided an estimated £12,172 in costs.

The company is the second in weeks to be prosecuted under the UK Packaging Regulations while at the same time being compliant with the UK WEEE Regulations.
