The Batteries Directive requires Member States to collect 25% of the average number of portable batteries placed onto the market over the previous three years. The UK achieved a collection rate of 27.7% in 2012. In 2015, Member States will be required to reach a collection target of 45%.

The figures show that the UK collection rate has risen considerably when compared to the previous two years, where an 18.03% collection rate in 2011 and 9.45% in 2010 were reached. A recycling target has only been set for the portable batteries category.
