SISTRI to start in October 2013

August 2013

The System to Trace Collection and Transport of Waste (SISTRI) in Italy will be in place by October 2013.

On 1 October 2013 obligations will start for waste operators and producers of dangerous special wastes (including certain hazardous waste electrical and electronic equipment) who have more than 10 employees.

The SISTRI start-up was due to be phased in from 1 September 2011 but was postponed. This was partly due to the fact that 90% of companies testing SISTRI on 11 May 2011 reporting errors due to unusable equipment provided by the Environment Ministry, lack of access to the system, disconnections and lengthy procedures.
