Registration, collection and recycling obligations for batteries producers

Producers of portable batteries

Producers can comply by participating a collective system or implementing an individual system. However, individual systems will only be granted approval if it provides nationwide take-back points.

Producers of industrial batteries

Individual compliance is permitted. A waste plan must be submitted and approved by the Pirkanmaa Regional Environmental Centre for each individual system

Packaging requirements

Packers and importers with an annual turnover of more than euros 840,940 (FIM 5 million) must report annually to the Finnish Environment Institute on the preceding year's quantity of packaging used, reused, recovered, and disposed.

Thresholds

Companies with a turnover of less than 840,940 euros are exempt from recovery requirements.
