Registration, collection and recycling obligations for batteries producers

Producers of portable batteries

Producers can comply by participating in a collective system or implementing an individual system. However, individual systems will only be granted approval if it provides nationwide take-back points.

Producers of industrial batteries

Individual compliance is permitted. A waste plan must be submitted and approved by the Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment for Pirkanmaa for each individual system

Battery Regulations in Finnish

Packaging requirements

Packers and importers with an annual turnover of more than EUR 1 million must report annually to the Finnish Environment Institute on the preceding year's quantity of packaging used, reused, recovered, and disposed.

Thresholds

Companies with a turnover of less than EUR 1 million are exempt from recovery requirements.
