Registration, collection and recycling obligations for batteries producers

Producers of portable and industrial batteries

For all battery types, producers must pay the fee to the fund.

Since 2009 EEE producers that take back WEEE through an authorised WEEE collector for export can claim EUR 1,026 per tonne of portable batteries in the WEEE.

Packaging requirements

Obligated parties must register and submit data based on the amount of packaging handled to the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund (EPEEF).

Packer/fillers shall pay a quarterly weight-based waste management fee to the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund to cover part of the waste management costs of the sales packaging they place on the market.

Thresholds

Producers and importers are not liable for the waste management fee or incentive fee if they put into circulation no more than the following quantities of each type of packaging in a given year:

  • 800 kg glass;
  • 300 kg paper, board and board-based composites;
  • 100 kg metals;
  • 100 kg plastics;
  • 100 kg wood and
  • 100 kg other packaging materials.
Packaging marking requirements

Decision 3026/2005, which amends the Packaging and Packaging Waste Ordinance, prescribes a mandatory marking system for plastics and composite packaging. This is not in line with the EU’s identification system, use of which is voluntary.
