Disadvantages of third-party WEEE compliance scheme approach
Disadvantages of using a third-party WEEE compliance scheme include:
- Financial costs and producer management time for joining a different WEEE compliance scheme in each Member State
- Ongoing costs and management time for maintaining membership of a different WEEE compliance scheme in each Member State
- Costs to producer of communicating compliance scheme collection arrangements to business end-users in each Member State
- No opportunity for cost savings by passing WEEE collection costs back to end-users
- Lack of flexibility to change
- No opportunity for competitive advantage with resellers
- Lack of marketing opportunities to promote individual producer responsibility
